The contours were derived from Bare-Earth (DEMs) created from QL2 LiDAR data. Source Data Description: MI 2016 LiDAR project called for the Planning, Acquisition, processing and derivative products of LIDAR data to be collected at a nominal pulse spacing (NPS) of 0.7 meter. Project specifications are based on the U.S. Geological Survey National Geospatial Program Base LIDAR Specification, Version 1.2. The data was developed based on a horizontal projection/datum of Michigan State Plane South, NAD83(2011), international feet and vertical datum of NAVD1988 (GEOID12A), international feet. Deliverables included classified LAS, Raw LAS, Bare-Earth hydro-flattened DEMs, Breaklines and Intensity images. Ground Conditions: LiDAR was collected in spring or fall, while no snow was on the ground and rivers were at or below normal levels.</idAbs>

The vertical accuracy was tested with independent survey check points located in various terrain types. These check points were not used in the calibration or post processing of the lidar point cloud data. The survey check points were distributed throughout the block area. Specifications for this project require that the FVA be 9.25 cm (18.13 cm or better @ 95 percent confidence level).</measDesc>

<stepDesc>1-foot contours (raw) and a hillshade were generated from all LiDAR tiles. The raw version of the contours were then placed into an ESRI Geodatabase and further processing was performed for the smooth version and placed into a separate ESRI Geodatabase. Depression contours were created as well for the purpose of attribution. All contours less than 100 feet in length were deleted. Remaining 1-foot contours were then attributed as either intermediate, intermediate_depression, index or index_depression through spatial selection and calculation. Newly attributed 1-foot contours were then smoothed by tile using cartographic generalization tools in Esri ArcGIS 10.3. Final smoothed contours were visually checked for overlap, intersection, and dangle errors. Topology was built for all tiles and errors were repaired where found. Most errors were repaired by comparing smoothed contours to raw contours and manually editing line vertices. Other errors were repaired through topologic validation tolerances. All tiles were merged to create a county-wide 1-foot contour dataset.</stepDesc>
